Book Review: Maelstrom
by A.E. Albert

Author: Tess McCallum
Genre: Romance

Erin is a city girl.  However, a new and exciting job opportunity convinces her to pack up and move north of Sidney.

She immediately takes to her boss, his family and her co-workers. However, she can't figure out why her boss's partner, Drew, takes an immediate dislike to her.

Unfortunately, for Erin, her feelings for him are quite the opposite.

I think the core message of the story is trust.  Trust can make or break a relationship.  But sometimes we have to wonder if our expectations aren't set too high.

I enjoyed this theme in the story.  It isn't black and white, but nestled in a grey area making the reader questions both sides.

My favorite aspect of the book are the two main characters.  They are both bold, emotional and vibrant beings.  The story is therefore the expected clash of wills.  I love the beginning and the immediate tension building between the protagonists.

The author uses the dialogue to further the plot and character development very well.  However, at times, the conversations are a tad longer than needed.

Overall, Maelstrom is a well written novel set on the beautiful Australian coastline.  If you love romance, scenery and delicious tension, you'll love this book.

Tess
McCallum lives in Western Australia with her husband of over twenty years, their two children and a schizophrenic cat. Somehow in between being a wife, mother and working full-time in her real job, Tess still manages to find time to write. She has now published three romance e-books and is currently working on her fourth book, Different This Time, the third instalment of the Molly Downs Outback Romance series.

Tess has also published a full length novel A Thousand Rivers under the penname Melissa Kuipers, which is available from your favourite ebook retailer.
