Men and Martinis (Girlfriends of Gotham #1) by Delancey Stewart

Publication date: April 15th 2015
Genres: Comedy/New Adult, Romance

It’s 1998…and New York City just might not be prepared for the Girlfriends of Gotham…

Natalie Pepper knows almost nothing about New York City, except that it’s far, far away from her home in California. When she packs up everything she owns and moves there on a whim, luck is on her side. She stumbles into a promising marketing job in the developing Internet industry and finds herself surrounded by poised and polished men who are nothing like the guys she knew back home.

One man stands out from the rest… CJ: All-American hunk and genuine good guy. But they work together, and giving in to their mutual attraction could put Natalie’s sparkly new world at risk. She resolves to look, but not to touch…if she can ignore the feeling that he’s the guy she’s been looking for her whole life.

Natalie’s new friend Candace Kanie has no such concerns. From the barroom to the boardroom, she’s used to getting exactly what she wants, and her no-crap attitude ensures nothing gets in her way. But when she meets Damon, the notorious playboy at Natalie’s company, she finds that her take-no-prisoners style might not be as effective in the romantic realm.

Frustrated and often irrational, Candace pushes for what she wants until something’s gotta give. And when it does, she realizes that the one thing she might not do better than anyone else is change.

The first book about the loves, lives, and laughter of a group of friends finding their way in the city is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy full of Men and Martinis!

Who is your writing support team? How have they helped you on your writing journey?
have a few different support groups, depending on the type of support needed! (And I need lots of support!)

The most immediate and accessible are online. I belong to a couple of great closed groups on Facebook that are made up of other writers. One is all “write at home moms” – though many of us have other jobs, it was just a fun name for the group.

While this group includes some wildly successful NYT and USA Today bestselling authors, the focus of the group is more personal, and it’s a great support network for us all. It’s the place where you can ping other busy writing moms about the challenges of keeping all the balls in the air, or vent about the husband! They’re also a wealth of knowledge and everyone is very open about their own writing journeys and what’s working for them.

The other Facebook group is all writers working in the specific categories where I write (New Adult and Romance). These groups are fantastic for getting good industry information, and everyone shares things from sales numbers to insider publisher information very freely, recognizing that we’re all in this together and that we do best by lifting each other up.

My “real world” group is the Washington Romance Writers, the chapter of Romance Writers of America that I belong to. Since joining, I’ve been embraced in a way that I would never have imagined possible. The members of this group are so open and forthright that I know I could ask anything and get help. I’ve found critique partners, willing early readers, and professional editors here.

Lastly, I’ve got a core group of friends that cross from my “real” life to my writing life, and are always there to offer help when needed, or just share a bottle of wine and hear me work out whatever might be on my mind.

These different support outlets have probably been the single biggest factor in helping me learn about this industry and grow as a
writer.
